François Guyot, a former student of the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Paris, is a chemist and geologist. He obtained a PhD in Mineralogy from the Sorbonne University in 1988. His current research focuses on bio-mineralization by bacteria and archaea, the atomic scale mechanisms of these processes, their evolution over the Earth’s history, and how these phenomena allow microorganisms to act on a large scale through the planetary bio-geochemical cycles of CO2, carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. He is a Professor at the French National Museum of Natural History and a member of the Institut Universitaire de France.
