Life forms in cinema

7 films-debates

Last year, the program Cinema at the Frontiers of Life featured films addressing the issues raised by hybridization and the creation of virtual worlds. This year, the CNRS-PSL Interdisciplinary Nursery "Domestication and Manufacture of the Living" proposes a selection showing the protean dimension of life. This overview seeks to show the diversity of living forms (Life Forms, as they are called in English) that play a role in certain films. Far from being simply domesticated, this multiplicity of living beings imposes specific constraints that have an influence on social organizations, these "forms of life" that humans invent in order to live within an environment, such as agriculture, breeding, fishing or hunting. In these contexts, animals, plants and even microscopic beings become actors in their own right, with whom humans establish intimate or sometimes antagonistic relationships. It is to the exploration of the variety and complexity of these relationships that the spectators are invited to attend the film-debates of the program Les Formes de vie au cinéma. During each session, a specialist will present the aesthetic, societal, philosophical or scientific issues related to the projected film and will lead a discussion with the audience.

Program proposed by Perig Pitrou and Jean-Marc Zekri in the framework of the CNRS-PSL Interdisciplinary Nursery.
