The SYVIE project (Closed Systems and Modelling of Life) proposes to reflect, from an interdisciplinary perspective, on how to build technical systems that keep living systems alive while being as closed/isolated as possible. It is an interdisciplinary research that brings together anthropologists, ecologists, chemists and biologists, geochemists, and via an international network, space and planets specialists, engineers, architects and experts in robotics and artificial intelligence.

The objective of SYVIE is to address new disciplinary and interdisciplinary questions arising from the study of closed living systems at multiple scales of space and time, from "micro-biospheres", through macrosystems such as Biosphere 2, the Ecotron or Bios-3, to concepts considering planets as closed systems in their entirety, in the framework of Earth modeling or "terraforming" projects.
